根據外媒報導，10月23日，維克拉姆正準備關閉大門，沒想到沉重的門體突然倒下，直接壓在他身上。他被困在大門底下長達數小時。當地居民表示，這座大門重量約在400至600公斤之間。由於大門的止動器已經磨損，原本用來防止大門倒下的固定桿也已缺失，最終釀成這起嚴重事故。
直到24日凌晨約4時30分，一名當地居民才發現他，隨即通知警方及其他人員。警方趕抵現場後，將他的遺體從倒塌的大門下移出。
